Swim-a-Thon 2019
Thursday, July 11th
10 and unders 9:30-11:00am and 11 and ups 7:00-9:00pm
The annual swim-a-thon is scheduled for July 11th, 2019 and is held at Brighton Green pool. Money raised goes to the swim team account for purchasing new starting blocks and towards helping families in need in our community with pool memberships and/or swim lessons.
For those that are new to us, during the swim-a-thon the kids break up into the different lanes (they often find a lane with their friends) and they just swim laps. We have parent volunteers that record how many laps each kid is swimming. The kids are allowed to use kick boards, noodles, etc. to help them swim their laps. They are allowed to take breaks and then jump back to swimming more laps. The kids really enjoy the swim-a-thon. They enjoy the laid back and fun atmosphere.
Part 1 will be for 10 and unders and will begin around 9:30 and will end at 11:00. The event will start as soon as pictures are over and will end at 11:00am since that is when the pool opens.
Part 2 is for swimmers age 11 and up and will start when the pool closes at 7:00pm and end at 9:00pm
Swimmers are asked to obtain pledges for either a flat fee or amount per lap. Cash is accepted and checks may be made payable to Brighton Green or BGCA. Swimmers may collect flat fee donations prior to the swim-a-thon but money is not due until the banquet on Friday, July 19th. You may give me your envelopes at any point. Even if you don’t collect money, please return the envelope as we do recycle them from year to year.
We do need help from parents (older swimmers can help with morning session) with counting the laps being swum. Your job will include sitting at the end of the lane and using a tally system to mark how many laps each swimmer in your lane swims. You will be able to chat with others around you and sip your coffee/water/soda while you do this.
Parents are asked to send in a snack and/or beverages for the swimmers to have when they are done with their laps.
I will have your swim-a-thon envelopes at practice on Monday. The pledge sheet is attached in case you are heading somewhere this weekend and want to print it and take it with you.
