Pool Deck Space Reservations + Raffle

Each year, we offer a limited number of pool deck seating spot reservations for our 4th of July celebration!

These reserved spots give community members a guaranteed place on the deck and some of the best seats to enjoy all the fun, festivities, and fireworks. Even better, this tradition also serves as a great fundraiser to support our community*.

Spots are limited and always go quickly, so keep an eye out for reservation details coming soon!

*All proceeds from this volunteer-run program are donated back to Brighton Green to help offset the cost of the newly purchased pool robot vacuum, which cost over $2,000.

Cardboard Regatta

Get ready for one of the most fun and creative Brighton Green traditions — the Cardboard Regatta!

Kids will build their own race boats using only cardboard and duct tape, then put their creations to the test in the pool. The rules are simple: only two supplies may be used, everyone who helps build the boat must ride in it, and all body parts must stay inside the boat during the race.

This year, all teams must register in advance, so gather your crew, start designing, and get ready to see if your boat will float, race, or sink in spectacular fashion!
Picture
Terms & conditions
  • Boats will be designed to race with a 2-person crew. Teams with 4 people (5 with an alternate) will divide the race so that 2 people will start at one end of the pool and race to the other end where the remaining 2 teammates will be waiting. The 2 teammates in the boat will switch with the 2 teammates waiting on the pool deck (the original teammates may jump out of the boat upon reaching the checkpoint). The boat will then be raced back to the original starting point for the race.
  • NEW this year! If a crewmember is younger than 8 years old, they must be paired with a crewmember who is 10 years or older.
  • Heats will consist of, at most, 4 boats at a time.
  • Each boat will travel 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool). Crews must complete this length in under 3 minutes or they will be DQed.
  • Time from heats will determine placement in the finals
  • Teammates not in the boat may help push the boat away from the pool deck at the beginning and the halfway point.
  • The race must begin and end with a 2-person crew
  • Swimming with or pulling the boat, or use of the lane lines will result in disqualification.

Build Rules:
  • If you build it, you ride in it.
  • Boats must be made before the race.
  • Boats must be made only of cardboard and duct tape (NO reinforced cardboard tube - only broken down cardboard).
  • Cardboard cannot be sealed with any paint or sealants.
  • Duct tape can be any color but must manufactured in that color.
  • Boats can be a max width of 60" (5 ft) and max length of 84" (7 ft). There ir not a max height but participants must be seated in a way that if a boat capsizes, participants will end up in the water.
  • Boat must be fully enclosed or permit the crew to remain fully on top of the vessel (without dangling extremities).
  • Boats must be propelled by hands or paddles. No artificial paddles are allowed and created ones must meet the same requirements for construction of boats.
  • If any illegal items used during construction are discovered during the pre- or post-race inspection, the boat will be disqualified.
  • NEW this year! Boats must be stored off-site due to the BG Summer camp use of the community center.

ANY rule not specifically covered herein will be left to the discretion of the lifeguards and Pool Manager.
