There were about thirty residents in attendance in addition to the nominated 2016 Board members. Each Board member introduced themselves and their goals for 2016. All nominated Board members were unanimously elected, as well as a new nominee from the floor for the Community Life Coordinator position.
David Crighton, 2016 President, presented a history of finances at Brighton Green Community Association. In summary, the income from year to year fluctuates widely and has hit bottom after the Great Recession. Our bank account has been depleted to make necessary major repairs, such as the roof and the pool cover.
In an attempt to even out the annual income fluctuations and hopefully restore the neighborhood to the sense of community it once experienced, the Board will begin a Community Campaign emphasizing the need for every home to purchase a Maintenance Membership (formerly known as a General Membership). By communicating repeatedly with every home, we hope to increase interest and promote activities between neighbors. Attendees were encouraged to knock on five of their neighbors' doors and promote the campaign and the neighborhood. Communication channels currently being used are the website (brightongreen.org), Facebook page and group, the Yahoo Brighton Green group and NextDoor (a free application that targets members within our neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods).
